Reforms in a Historical Perspective: Keys for Understanding

Abstract

The current administration headed by President Michelle Bachelet promised in its government program to implement a series of reforms whose axes would be education, tax reform and a new constitution having the purpose to build "a Chile for everyone". The programmatic platform was meant to address inequalities thus in its environment, existed the conviction that inequality was making conviviality untenable as well as the country´s social peace and development as a nation. This article reviews the course that these promises followed and compares them with other similar historical experiences.
