Finding the Community. Micropolitical Possibilities for Contemporary Art

Abstract

This article addresses the question of the relationship of contemporary art with social exchange, beyond the relational practices of the 90s theorized by Nicolas Bourriaud in his book Relational Aesthetics, particularly with those dynamics that raise an idea of †‹†‹community. The objective is to determine in what way the interactions between the subjects, and of these with their surroundings, are available to become a constitutive material of the artistic practice. In the same way, the current state of the community sense is approached in contexts of globalization, technological development and loss of the scales of reference, using as guide the reflections of the Chilean theorist  Sergio  Rojas. Finally,  using the  concept of work of  soft  edges and cultural ecologies of Reinaldo Laddaga and through the revision of some works by the Chilean artist Alfredo Jaar and the Spanish artist Santiago Sierra, the question is asked about the scope of the micropolitical strategy developed by Felix Guattari and Suely Rolnik for the action of art in the possible restoration of a scale that allows the symbolic reading of the world and the relationships that take place there.
