O inglês como língua franca na Colômbia: perspectivas de um campo emergente

Resumo

O inglês como língua franca (ILF) é um campo que vem ganhando terreno em todo o mundo, e a Colômbia não é exceção a esse crescente interesse. Embora existam poucas iniciativas focadas explicitamente no ILF dentro do ensino de inglês (ELT), alguns pesquisadores no país estão abordando o tema de maneiras diversas e enriquecedoras. Neste artigo, eu, formador de professores de inglês, falante não nativo e pesquisador comprometido com o ILF, exploro como os acadêmicos colombianos se apropriaram e interagiram com o ILF. Através da análise de iniciativas empíricas e conceituais que tratam não apenas do ILF, mas também de noções relacionadas, como Inglês do Mundo (WE), Inglês Global (GE) e Ensino Global da Língua Inglesa (GET), procuro mostrar como esse campo está se expandindo gradualmente no país. Além de oferecer uma visão superficial do crescimento do ILF na Colômbia, este texto crítico e reflexivo pretende compartilhar com a comunidade acadêmica nacional e internacional de ELT as múltiplas formas pelas quais o ILF pode ser abordado de maneira significativa, convidando assim a diálogos mais amplos que contribuam para superar as dinâmicas anglocêntricas que dominaram o campo por muito tempo.
