History
Políticas Públicas was established in 2006 on the initiative of the Center for Development Policies (CPD), an extension and research program originating from the Master’s in Management and Public Policies (MGP). Its director, Gonzalo Martner Fanta, proposed its creation as a means to bridge the gap between press communication and specialized academic journals.
Initially, with a focus on dissemination, it was printed and distributed by various public organizations. Since then, the journal has generated knowledge and debate through articles selected for publication by the editorial team. Additionally, on several occasions, the so-called Public Policy Briefs were published, authored by individuals affiliated with the CPD.
In 2017, the Journal published its last printed issue. Since then, through the CPD website and the OJS system, the journal has been published online only.
In 2019, with the new Scientific Journal Regulations, Políticas Públicas sought to align with international standards. Except for its pending entry into Latindex (in 2014), Políticas Públicas had no other indexations. Thus, the editorial team redesigned its processes: among other things, they formed an external academic team for article review, ceasing the functions of the journal's own editorial team in this regard, and adjusted their tasks to meet the requirements of the indexations.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the journal started the "Case Studies" section to differentiate this type of study from articles with a scientific theoretical and methodological basis ("Main Body"). Additionally, the editorial team began encouraging MGP thesis students to publish their Graduation Projects in the journal. From there, in 2022, they inaugurated the "Essays" section.
During 2022 and 2023, it was indexed in the Portal de Revistas Académicas Chilenas, EuroPub, DRJI, Dialnet, and consolidated its entry into Latindex.
