1. General Information
Culturas Científicas (e-ISSN: 0719-9856) is a scientific journal with online circulation. It began functions in 2018 and is dependent on the Department of Philosophy of the University of Santiago de Chile. In accordance with our Evaluation Policy, all manuscripts received undergo double-blind peer review. We declare ourselves an open access journal, as expressed in our policy in this regard. After a period of inactivity, and under a new administration, a new publication cycle began in 2021.
2. Aims & Scope
The objective of our journal is to respond to the current demand for research on science, techniques, technologies, and their processes that address these subjects in an interdisciplinary way and in an international context. Accordingly, our target audience are researchers whose common axis is the production and reading of academic studies about science. Culturas Científicas aims to be a space for both promotion and dialogue for this type of research.
Our journal has a Call for papers permanently open (check the estimated publication times). It only receives unpublished research articles, written in Spanish or English, that are not in the review phase in any other journal and that follow our Guidelines for Authors. The topics accepted in the journal are those related to meta-scientific studies such as, but not exclusively, the following:
- General philosophy of science and philosophy of special sciences
- History of science
- Philosophy and history of technology
- Research on logical, educational, legal, economic, ethical, sociological, or anthropological aspects of science.
- Science and technology studies (STS)
The occasional publication of 'Dossier' thematic numbers is contemplated, the announcement of which will not affect or suspend our regular Call for papers and all its received manuscripts will also be double-blind reviewed The focus and scope of these issues, which will always be compatible with the one described here, can be consulted in their specific calls. These can be found in the ‘CFP’ tab. '.
3. Frequency
Culturas Científicas is published twice a year, in the last week of July and the last week of December. The suggested deadlines for submitting manuscripts are always notified at the end of each call.
4. Estimated publication time
The evaluation process can take up to five months once receipt of the contribution has been acknowledged. Nevertheless, the authors can always find suggested deadlines at the end of all the CFP of our journal. We note that the dates suggested in the different CFP's consider the minimum processing time for each article before the next issue without contemplating any kind of setback —the average processing time is 3.5 months—. Accordingly, and to ensure your entry in the next issue, we suggest submitting well in advance of the suggested deadline. We also remember that Culturas Científicas receives contributions at any time of the year.
5. Rejection rate
Our journal has a rejection rate of around 65% (updated to the December 2022 issue). We are committed to the growth of knowledge, so reports and/or rejection reasons are sent to all authors. We strongly suggest authors review in detail our Aims & Scope; Evaluation Policy and our Guidelines for Authors to avoid ad-portas rejections.
