Abstract

As an incentive to prepare the presentation of this dossier commemorating the 80th anniversary of Gabriela Mistral's Nobel Prize, the editor asked the two guest editors, Elizabeth Horan and Nain Nómez, a few questions. The questions and answers outline a promising landscape for Mistral studies, opening up several avenues to explore, ranging from her circle of poets and readers in the Elqui Valley in the early 20th century to the cultural diplomacy that made her, as she said in her Nobel acceptance speech: “by a fortune that surpasses me, I am at this moment the direct voice of the poets of my race and the indirect voice of the very noble Spanish and Portuguese languages.” Following the dialogue, the three articles and two notes that make up the dossier are described.
