Note: Mistral in Paris. International conference on the work of Gabriela Mistral, its translation, and its legacy.

Abstract

The following note describes the conference “Gabriela Mistral Yesterday and Today: Between Poetic Winepress and Political Message,” held in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of her Nobel Prize. The event was organized by Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris III, Université Paris-Nanterre, Sorbonne Université, the Embassy of Chile in France, and Université Paris VIII, and took place November 19-21 at the Maison de l’Amérique latine in Paris. The various paper, presentations and activities that were held in Paris are briefly described, highlighting Gabriela Mistral as a central figure for fostering a transnational dialogue. This allows us to reflect upon the still present impact and trajectory of a poet and intellectual who, eighty years after receiving the Nobel Prize, remains a figure of inspiration and subject for academic, literary, and artistic reflection.
