Barriers and challenges for the development of the circular economy: panorama of international scientific and technological production.
Abstract
The aim of the article is to present an overview of the international scientific discussion on possible barriers, to the development of the circular economy. In methodological terms, for the bibliometric survey the Scopus Base was consulted, while for the technological production the search portal Patentscope of the World Intellectual Property Organization was used. The main results express that the obstacles in the transition from the current linear economy to the Circular Economy are of different nature and interdependent. The challenges / barriers for the Circular Economy include the application of interdisciplinary approaches, with different technologies and methods, an effort to design and offer products and services that satisfy the interests of a consumer, an actor who needs to be aware of the problem. The need to develop a committed business culture and, finally, government intervention through the formulation of policies to encourage the adoption and implementation of appropriate technologies.
