Forms of land tenure are closely linked to the relationship that farmers establish with their environment, and shape their understanding regarding the use of resources, particularly in the context of climate change. The purpose of this article is to analyse the historical processes that have delimited the distribution of land and its link with vulnerable social groups in Chile, with special emphasis on the central-southern area of the country. To do so, a hermeneutic analysis of historical sources regarding the occupation and distribution of land in Chile was carried out. This article shows that there are three historical processes that serve as pillars to understand the current relationship between the State, society and the environment, which correspond to Internal Colonization, Agrarian Reform and Agrarian Counter-Reform. From this, it is argued that there are three social groups whose rights regarding land tenure have historically been violated, which correspond to indigenous peoples, women and people affected by the agrarian counter-reform. Considering the historical processes and social groups identified in this study allows for a situated and intersectional understanding of phenomena associated with land tenure, such as Climate Change.
