Abstract

This article is built from two investigative experiences on topics related to the Pinochet dictatorship, marked by silence and the lack of information, which, as an insurmountable limit for historiography, have generally been eluded by researchers, who, in the absence of material, have had to search other sources of information or reread the existing one from another point of view. Under this premise, silence being an element that enables the reflection and transformation of the discipline, the proposal of this work is to suggest, through the author’s own investigative experience, clues and guidelines from which to confront silence as a source for historiography, in order to establish mechanisms to understand and interpret it from its own prohibited content.
