Publication Ethics

Revista Culturas Científicas is a scientific journal that publishes peer-reviewed manuscripts using a double-blind method and rejects both plagiarism and self-plagiarism practices. We declare that in case of any issues related to the mentioned topics, authorship establishment, misbehavior of editors, reviewers, authors, and others, we strictly follow the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Below, we list the main responsibilities and commitments of the involved parties with the aim of ensuring transparency in the roles of editors, reviewers, and authors:

a) Regarding Editorial Committee Members, the Director, and Editors:

  • Satisfy the needs of readers by maintaining the originality and quality of the published material.
  • Commit to continuously improving the journal.
  • Uphold the double-blind peer review method.
  • Provide reviewers with clear and concise review guidelines that exclusively assess the academic quality of the manuscripts.
  • Do not use acceptance or rejection criteria based on anything other than the manuscript's quality, excluding race, gender, sexual orientation, or religious beliefs of the authors.
  • Ensure the anonymity of both authors and reviewers throughout the evaluation process.
  • Commit to publishing corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when necessary.
  • Inform authors in a timely manner regarding the receipt of submissions, decision outcomes, and correction deadlines.
  • Use the names and email addresses received exclusively for the journal’s purposes.

b) Regarding Reviewers:

  • Recuse themselves as reviewers and notify the Editorial Committee if they suspect a conflict of interest or if they know the identity of the author, to preserve the double-blind review process.
  • Conduct their evaluation based on the guidelines provided by the Editorial Committee, avoiding discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, or religious beliefs of the authors.
  • Reviewers are strictly prohibited from using, sharing, or making public the material entrusted to them in any form.

If a member of the Editorial Committee or a reviewer fails to meet these responsibilities, relevant evidence will be collected, and a 30-day period will be given to the member for any clarifications or defenses. After that, the committee will vote anonymously on whether to remove the responsible party from their position and consider barring them from holding any future roles in the journal.

c) Regarding Authors:

  • Ensure the reliability of the data submitted and disclose any potential conflicts of interest to the Editor-in-Chief (see Conflict of Interest Policy).
  • Guarantee that the submitted work does not involve plagiarism or self-plagiarism, whether partial or total.
  • Ensure that the article submitted has not been previously published or submitted elsewhere, or provide an explanation in the Comments to the Editor if it has been.
  • Precisely list all authors who contributed to the work being submitted to avoid ghost authorship.

These policies aim to maintain the integrity of the publication process and ensure that all parties involved adhere to ethical and professional standards.
