Abstract

Considering the relevance of human resources in health for the fulfillment of the health objectives and their present crisis situation in relation to several factors such as the shortage, the training of health personnel in disagreement with the health needs and the establishment of places of negative work. It seems reasonable to conduct a theoretical review regarding the procedures that could positively impact on the management of human resources in the health sector within which is the performance evaluation process as an important stage of the human resources cycle.

It has been made a review of the theoretical foundations that underpin the performance evaluation process as well as the potential failures in its implementation in order to provide theoretical support for conducting this procedure.

Also it has been made a brief review of the legal provisions that have shaped the current performance evaluation process in the public sector for the purpose of understanding the scenario in which the performance evaluation process is currently being carried out. Finally, a mention of the current challenges that this process represents for the management of health staff is made.
