Doss. 'Problems of the Contemporary Philosophy of Biology' (July 2022)

The philosophy of biology is an area of †‹†‹the philosophy of science that has recently had a great development in the study of the historical, metaphysical and epistemological foundations, both of the concepts and of the scientific theories and practices in biology, as well as of the consequences they have for our ethical understanding of the nature of life and ecosystems. Although Chile has traditionally had an important scientific development in the various areas of biological sciences, it has had only an incipient development of philosophical research in this field.

Considering the above, Culturas Científicas (e-ISSN: 0719-9856) makes this call for papers for a dossier section intended to its Vol.3 | N°1 (July 2022). The aforementioned dossier will be dedicated to the contemporary philosophy of biology. The origin of this initiative is partly associated with the International Lecture Series on Contemporary Philosophy of Biology, of which the Editors Invited to this Dossier are part, and which was organized with the support of the Department of Ecological Sciences of the University of Chile, the Chilean Society of Biology (SBCh) and the Chilean Society of Philosophy of Science (SOCHIFIC)

For the Dossier section* manuscripts will be received, either in Spanish or in English, that are framed within the topics currently being dealt with in the field of the philosophy of biology and related disciplines. We will receive articles corresponding to original works within the area, as well as general reviews that consist of introductions to topics and specific debates that are currently being developed within the discipline. The contributions sent must be unpublished, not be in the evaluation phase in any other journal and comply with our Guidelines for authors. They will be reviewed using the double-blind procedure (see Editorial Policy) and must be submitted using the official portal of our journal by checking the option 'Dossier Problems of the contemporary Philosophy of Biology' or otherwise they will be considered as contributions destined for the miscellaneous section.

We invite researchers in the area of †‹†‹philosophy whose object of study is biological sciences, and also scientists interested in the foundations and conceptual problems of their area of †‹†‹research, to submit proposals for this Dossier.
